Life coaches help people make transitions in their personal life.  The coach helps his client with the process of self-actualization. Coaches assist their client in setting and achieving goals in their life. Coaches draw from a number of disciplines when coaching.

Some disciplines used by coaches are:

• Psychology
• career counseling
• Therapy

Coaches are taking over the world. Many people new to coaching are beginning to see the benefits of having someone listen to their goals. Great coaches take the time to set up a program for their client’s life. Coaches generally go through a coaching program to become coaches. Once a Coach begins coaching he/she will get feedback from other coaches on how they are doing as coaches.

With personal Growth being all the rage, Life coaches are the “In” thing right now. Coaches do not give a diagnosis on ones life; rather they look to the future and ask, “What do you want in your life?”  Coaches can be used to

• change careers
• repair relationships
• or simply get your act together

One study showed that 70% of all coaches’ clients are men. It is believed that men respond favorably to the phrase coach, which is a term from sports. Another interesting fact is that 65% of all coaches are men. Coaching seems to be a male dominated field.

Today there are ten thousand coaches and more than twenty thousand coaches of various types in the USA alone. That number is staggering given that coaching is a fairly new field. There are many life coaches popping up in Australia as well. The main attraction to the field of life coaching is that coaches are virtually unregulated. Although many life coaches have extensive credentials, there are others who have taken no courses at all. Anyone can declare himself a coach. A word to the wide: be careful when finding a life coach should you choose to join this ever expanding trend.
